Who needs Sacrifices? What do ancient Jewish texts and traditions tell us about their functions? Do we need priests? What is their authority, value, and purpose? What is special about Melchizedek and his priesthood? How should we understand sacred places and God’s presence among his people? What about Jesus and his sacrifice and many teachings found in Leviticus?
All these questions and many more come up in this seminar-style course. The videos assembled here come from several seminars recorded with live audience participation as our faculty members: Yeshaya Gruber, Nicholas Schaser, Pinchas Shir, Tupa Guerra, Cindy Parker, and Carlos Santos Carretero dig into the issues. The professors engage with selected texts from the Bible, various Second Temple texts, Qumran Scrolls, some rabbinic commentaries and an array of other interesting ancient sources.
Faculty members even take some questions from the audience as they consider Levitical ideas from multiple perspectives. Instead of a single lecturer the seminar format features several experts who bring their combined knowledge to reflect on texts as they interact with each other's views and opinions. You will not be disappointed by these insightful conversations!
