Amy-Jill Levine is the E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Professor of New Testament and Jewish Studies at Vanderbilt University. Her books include The Misunderstood Jew: The Church and the Scandal of the Jewish Jesus and (with Douglas A. Knight) The Meaning of the Bible: What the Jewish Scriptures and Christian Old Testament Can Teach Us.
Marc Zvi Brettler is the Bernice and Morton Lerner Professor of Jewish Studies at Duke University. He is the author of How to Read the Bible and co-founder of the website TheTorah.com, the world’s leading platform for Torah study informed by academic scholarship (widely used by rabbis, educators, academics, and lay readers from all backgrounds and denominations).
Profs. Levine and Brettler are co-editors of The Jewish Annotated New Testament and co-authors of The Bible With and Without Jesus: How Jews and Christians Read the Same Stories Differently. In this enlightening Roundtable Talk with Dr. Yeshaya Gruber of the Israel Bible Center, they delve into Jewish and Christian interpretive styles, assumptions, questions, and relationships with Biblical texts.
