Rev. Dr. David Instone-Brewer is a senior research fellow at Tyndale House in Cambridge. A Christian minister as well as a scholar, he has conducted extensive research on rabbinic literature and its relationship with the first-century Jewish texts known to Christians as the "New Testament." He is currently working on a major multivolume project entitled Traditions of the Rabbis from the Era of the New Testament as well as developing www.STEPBible.com (Scripture Tools for Every Person). Dr. Instone-Brewer's other books include The Jesus Scandals: Why He Shocked His Contemporaries (and Still Shocks Today); Divorce and Remarriage in the Bible: The Social and Literary Context; and Moral Questions of the Bible: Timeless Truth in a Changing World. In this incisive conversation with Dr. Yeshaya Gruber of the Israel Bible Center, Dr. Instone-Brewer describes the fascinating world of Jewish ideas in the first century, ranging from Hillel and Shamai to Yeshua/Jesus and Shaul/Paul – their parallels, differences, stories, and messages for the Jewish and Greco-Roman worlds.
