André LaCocque is professor emeritus of Hebrew Scriptures at the Chicago Theological Seminary and the founder of its Center for Jewish-Christian Studies (now the Center for Jewish, Christian, and Islamic Studies). His many books include: Jesus the Central Jew: His Times and His People; The Trial of Innocence: Adam, Eve, and the Yahwist; and most recently Work and Creativity: A Philosophical Study from Creation to Postmodernity. In this illuminating conversation with Dr. Yeshaya Gruber of the Israel Bible Center, Prof. LaCocque explains the vital importance of understanding the Jewish identity and context of Jesus, the misinterpretations that prevailed for centuries as a result of the lack of this perspective, and why "work/service" is so essential to the entire Biblical worldview.
